Signifer has been entered for the Erik Penser Bank E B F Maiden Stakes (CLASS 4) (2yo) at Newbury on Friday 15th April, 1.35pm.  There are 25 entries.

The 2 year old Titus Livius colt has been working well at home and is set to take his first step onto a racecourse. As with all 2 year olds, you never know how they will react to their first racecourse experience, but if Signifer continues in his usual laid back manner, it should all come naturally to him.

Members of Insignia Racing will be pleased to know that all four of the two year olds for 2011 are in great form.

Mick talks you through the progress of each individual on the Latest Features Page:

With the New Year well under way, things are beginning to move forward with all four of our two year olds who celebrated their shared "birthdays" on January 1st amid Arctic conditions at West Ilsley.

As their base fitness levels increased with regular slow work up the all-weather gallop, Mick has now made the next step in their education as they have been covering four furlongs up the grass chutes of the Winter Gallops in bunches of a dozen or so fellow juveniles.

Mick is delighted with their progression.

The Ensign Syndicate's Exceed and Excel Filly does everything so easily that she really does look to be an exciting prospect. This is by no means fast work, but the presence of others around her doesn't seem to have bothered her in the slightest. Time will tell but if she continues on her current upward curve, the sky could well be the limit.

The Compton Place Colt is a real character. He is a ball of energy who was something of a handful to begin with, but he's struck up an excellent rapport with our young apprentice Adam Brook who has taught him to settle in his work. It's all about being able to use him when we want to and he retains all of his enthusiasm, but has learnt to accept our demands rather than set his own agenda.

The Roundel Syndicate's Titus Livius Colt retains all of his bullish looks despite the increase in his workload. He loves every moment of his daily exercise and is unflappable. He seems like the type of horse that will do anything he's asked. He's yet to miss a day and looks fantastic.

Mick describes the Mujadil Colt as finding things a little too easy! He hacks up the grass without a bother and as Mick says, "Long may it continue!"

This period is all about educating them mentally as well as physically. They'll all increase the speed of their work as well as the frequency of it from here on in. Work days at West Ilsley take place on Tuesdays and Fridays and you can view all of the Insignia horses on Mick's website:

You can also use the gallops search engine on the home page and type in your horse. This will give you a chronological order of their gallops in the archives.

There are two syndicates that have places still available ahead of a fun packed flat season in 2011.

The Ensign Syndicate consists of twelve shares, a filly and a colt.

The filly is by champion Australian sire Exceed And Excel and her mother has produced no less than nine winners. The colt is by Compton Place, a champion sire who looks to have passed on his athleticism to his son. His dam was a winner herself and has already produced one winner from only one runner. The future for both individuals looks very bright and those at West Ilsley who have already worked with them, think a great deal of them. The Roundel Syndicate consists of twenty shares and features two colts.

The first colt is by the stallion Titus Livius, an eye-catching individual who Mick and Tina were immediately attracted to at the Tattersalls Yearling Sales. He is a first foal of a dam whose family is related to champion racehorses Almushtarak and Tiber. The second colt in the Roundel Syndicate is by Mujadil and is a full brother to Wovoka, an incredibly talented and durable individual who Mick trained to Listed race success in Ireland.
