VEXILLUM WINS COMFORTABLY AT YARMOUTH

Vexillum got his head in front decent style in the Scroby Sands Windfarm Handicap Stakes at Yarmouth yesterday. He travelled well throughout the race and when Sam Hitchcott asked him to pick up, he travelled smoothly up the inside rail to win by an impressive 5 lengths. Mick commented "I'm chuffed for the patient owners. This horse has always looked capable of winning, and things just haven't always gone right for him. At least he's now got one on the board and hopefully they'll be more to come".

REPRESENT WINS IN STYLE AT FOLKESTONE

Represent, broke her duck in style last night.  Regular partner Martin Harley could not get to the track in time due to traffic problems but he gave replacement jockey, Saleen Golan a good insight into how to ride her and Saleem proved an able substitute.  Saleem commented there was plenty of pace in the race which suited her, she settled well, made her way through the field and at the furlong marker quickened nicely to win by a comfortable 3 1/4 lengths.  Mick said "I'm thrilled, the owners have been so patient, but we always knew she had it in her, she just needed things to go right.  Lets hope she can carry on".

FIRST WINNER FOR EMBLEM

Warrant Officer put up a game performance to win the Selling Nursery at Yarmouth.  Although this was a relatively low grade race and Warrant Officer's first run in a handicap, he delivered his win in typically gutsy style.  Martin Harley, who rode him said "I thought they were coming to pass me a furlong out, but he just kept finding more and really stuck his neck out.  I wish they all gave you as much".

The evening could have been even more memorable with a first double for Insignia Racing on the cards, when the Ensign Syndicate's Represent just missed to hold on, being beaten a neck in the 6f handicap.  The filly really deserves to get her head in front soon.

WEATHER PLAYING ITS PART

The weather is making life even more difficult when it comes to entering and placing horses.  Vexillum had been declared for Ffos Las and Beverley last week, with both fixtures being abandoned (he is now declared for Lingfield on Wednesday, so fingers crossed), Signifer was withdrawn from Haydock on Saturday when earlier in the week the ground was given as good, it resulted in starting as Heavy on Saturday morning.  The Friday evening fixture at Haydock was abandoned which resulted in Symboline missing a race and finally we are struggling to find races for Represent who ideally needs to bounce off the ground. The only thing is - its the same for everyone!

VEXILLUM 2nd AT YARMOUTH

Vexillum put up another good performance coming 2nd of 12 at Yarmouth yesterday, retaining the fact that all Insignia turf runners have finished in the first 4 during the current season.

Vexillum's run was on desparate ground classed as heavy, but he coped well and finished well ahead of the 3rd and the rest of the field.  Mick commented, "it was just annoying we came across one too good on the day, he's run a decent race and surely we've got to win one with him soon!"

EMBLEM TWO YEAR OLDS ARE NAMED

The Emblem two year olds can now cease to be called by the name of their sires!  The Royal Applause filly has been registered Symboline and the Misu Bond colt has been named Warrant Officer - a name we think suits him perfectly.

Symboline is slightly more forward in her work and is likely to be the first Emblem horse to see the racecourse possibly within the next few weeks.  Warrant Officer, who is pleasing Mick, will need slightly more time.

ROUNDEL HORSES IN THE PRIZE MONEY

Both Vexillum and Signifer came third in their respective runs during the last week.

Vexillum's run at Folkestone did not go entirely to plan as with only 4 runners and with him breaking so well from the stalls, it was virtually impossible to get the required cover.  He travelled well but did not find much at the business end of the race.  Mick retains his belief in the horse and is confident his time will come.

Signifer ran yesterday at Nottingham in a very competitive 0-85 handicap.  He travelled well throughout the race and looked all over the winner 1/2 a furlong out, when he was swamped in a 4 horse blanket finish.  Thankfully he hung on for 3rd with the distances being a nose, 1/2 length and a head!

Royal Applause filly - happy in her work
Cantering at West Ilsley

EMBLEM TWO YEAR OLDS CONTINUE TO PLEASE

Both the Royal Applause filly and Misu Bond colt are having their work gradually built up and they are taking it all in their strides.  They are very different characters with both showing ability to give their owners plenty of fun through their two year old season.

Work videos of their progress can be seen on the Gallops Page.

ENSIGN AND ROUNDEL 3 YEAR OLDS BACK IN!

All 3 Insignia three year olds are now back in early work for their 2012 campaigns.  The two geldings, Signifer and Vexillum have been in a while and both look as if the break has done them good.  The filly Represent has come in more recently and has also benefitted from some time in the paddocks.

Mick gives you his thoughts on the prospects of the two who are both now cantering up the woodchip gallop at West Ilsley.

The Misu Bond colt (pictured above) has been in full work since October. He was one of the first colts broken and is yet to miss a day. He has great enthusiasm for the job and is very much a character among the new influx of West Ilsley yearlings.

The Royal Applause filly began her routine of steady caters in mid-November and has taken to the task immediately. If you would like to know more or if you would like to arrange a visit to see the horses go through their paces please do not hesitate to get in touch.
