INSIGNIA OWNERS ENJOY THE SUNSHINE AT WEST ILSLEY

It is not easy to get all owners together, but those that could attend enjoyed seeing the Insignia horses paraded at the yard, before lunch and racing from Mick's box at Newbury.

The horses all looked well, including Jaywalker, who is sadly on box rest for some time.  Finflash will be due to run in the next couple of days, whilst the scopey looking Knight of the Air will probably need another 4 weeks or so, before making his racecourse debut.

JAYWALKER - ONE RACE - ONE WIN!

Everybody's patience paid off when Jaywalker made his racecourse debut at Lingfield Park.  He has never had any major problems but little niggles that kept him off the racecourse last year.  However, Mick has always liked him and knew it was worth persevering.

"There have been times with JAYWALKER when I've suspected he's been reading the Racing Post!  Everytime he's had an entry he's gone lame on us!  The Crest Syndicate Owners must have been wondering what excuse I was going to come up with next!  But he's always showed us speed, and did all he could today against a rival rated 68.  He's a super individual - great temperament and bags of talent, who will be effective at 5f or 6f."

He took the racecourse preliminaries like an old pro, Willie Twiston-Davies gave him a lovely introductory ride and although it wasn't the hottest maiden he could not have run any better.  Tina said "Phew, thank goodness for that!  We always hoped and thought it could go like that, but until they get onto the track you never quite know.  We can now look forward to the turf season with optimism!

CRESCENT SYNDICATE COLT NAMED

The Crescent Syndicate's Bushranger colt has been named KNIGHT OF THE AIR.

The Crescent Syndicate's Bushranger
Bushranger yearling looks the part!

2014 SYNDICATE LAUNCHED

A stiking Bushranger colt has been selected for Insignia Racing's 2014 Crescent syndicate.  The bay colt was purchased at the Newmarket Tattersalls Book 2 Sale.

Bushranger is a popular sire who had his first two year olds on the racecourse in the 2013 season.  They made a good start for the first season sire's career and he is already proving to produce speedy precocious types like himself.

The dam is Picolette (by Piccolo) and the most prolific offspring of hers was Pintura, who was also trained by Mick as a two year old.  Pintura was by Efisio, who appears in the damside of Bushranger - so it is hoped and thought the pedigree should work!

Finflash leading the field
Making it look easy!

FINFLASH WINS & COLLECTS £10K BONUS!

Finflash put up a decent display when winning the 43 Red EBF Maiden Stakes over 5f at Chepstow.  Winning jockey, Richard Hughes commented "that was a good effort, he travelled really nicely, is very honest and loved the ground".  Having not had a tremendous amount of luck in previous runs Mick said "I'm delighted!  When you know you've got a colt with a bit of ability, which he has, and things don't go to plan, its disappointing for everyone - including the horse!  He deserves this".  Along with collecting the winning prize money Finflash also won his owners the £10,000 Racing Post Bonus, which will go into the Owners' pot.  Tina commented "I'm chuffed to bits.  Everyone has been so patient.  He's such a genuine colt and today was his day".

FINFLASH PUTS UP GOOD PERFORMANCE ON RACECOURSE DEBUT

Finflash ran a very creditable 2nd on his racecourse debut in the Betfred Mobile Maiden race at Ascot.  He travelled well throughout and finished strongly being beaten 1/2 length by the favourite.  Mick was delighted with the run and said "I thought he'd run well and he hasn't let me down.  He's a cracking colt with a great attitude and we can hopefully look forward to some great days out with him".

TWO YEAR OLDS GETTING NEARER TO RACECOURSE

Mick is very happy with both Syndicate horses.  He believes Finflash to be a slightly earlier type and says "he's going really well and I couldn't be happier with him.  The other colt, Jaywalker will need a bit more time, but I'm not bothered about that as he's showing me lots of promise.  I think we can look forward to some good days racing!"

FINFLASH & JAYWALKER - OUR TWO YEAR OLDS FOR THE COMING SEASON

As usual we were scratching our heads for names that bear an association with Insignia for the two 2013 syndicates.

Eventually we think we've come up with two approprite ones!

The Coronet's colt by Jeremy has been named FINFLASH.  To explain - a finflash is a vertical insignia on the tailfin of an aircraft.  We think this suits the colt's striking white blaze and resonates speed!

The Crest Syndicate's Footstepsinthesand colt has been named JAYWALKER.  The thinking behind this is a Jay has a Crest and Walker ties in with the the sires name!

Both colts are pleasing Mick in their work and we are starting to get excited about prospects for the coming season.

END OF SEASON / SYNDICATE GET TOGETHER

Both the Ensign and Roundel Syndicates have come to the end of their two year run and an end of season / syndicate party was held at The Crab at Chieveley to celebrate their success.  All remaining horses in both syndicates won two races each and the evening was also used to distribute the prizes won during the course of the season.

Sadly not all owners could attend, but a good time was had by all who did!
